No, not my stunning, speckled formica countertops (blech, what were builders thinking in 1995?!). But yes, those lemons. Specifically because those are Meyer lemons boiled in sugar and water to make a beautiful simple syrup.
A simple syrup that will work hand in hand with fresh lime and lemon juices and tequila and triple sec to make you a tart, citrus-y, fabulous margarita. A margarita that will replace all desire ever to use a neon green, granule margarita mix. Just say no to neon foods. That's sort of a life rule. Along with saying no to Mr. S&S's neon basketball shorts. No. Just... no. But yes to my fabulous neon pink shirt. It's totally different. Obviously.
But back to these margs. You should really, just really give them a try. So worth it.
Happy weekending!
Meyer Lemon Margaritas
Makes 1, but is better multiplied with friends
2 oz Meyer lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
2 oz Lime juice (about 2 limes)
2 oz Triple Sec
2 oz Tequila
1 1/2 oz Meyer lemon simple syrup
To make the simple syrup, combine 3/4 cup sugar with 1 cup water in a saucepan. Slice up 1 Meyer lemon and place in the pan. Cover and bring to a boil, stirring once, for about 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Rub the rim of a glass with a cut lime and dip into salt, sugar, or a salt/sugar blend (my personal fav). Mix all listed ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker for 30 seconds (don't be like me and use a nalgene. be classier. I beg you.) and pour over ice. Serve with a twist.
Yeah, I use abrevs. Sorry not sorry.
